CLEANING

We once watched a grandmother restore her tarnished heirloom tea service to a mirror shine using nothing but baking soda and aluminum foil—no harsh chemicals, no expensive products, and the whole kitchen smelled like lemons. These three homemade silver cleaner recipes deliver the same brilliant results with ingredients already sitting in the pantry.

CLEANING

We've all stood there watching water pool around last night's dinner dishes, knowing that sluggish drain won't fix itself. Good news: most clogs surrender to simple household ingredients already sitting in the pantry, no plumber required.

TIP OF THE DAY

Kitchen Cabinet Rescue!

Mix one part dish soap with two parts warm water in a spray bottle, then add a tablespoon of white vinegar to cut through built-up grease . Spray a small section of your cabinet, wait 30 seconds, then wipe with a microfiber cloth in the direction of the wood grain.

Rinse the cloth in clean water, and wipe again to remove soap residue. The vinegar breaks down grease molecules while the soap lifts them away, and that second wipe prevents streaky buildup that attracts more grime.

BUG CONTROL

Mosquitoes can detect carbon dioxide from up to 100 feet away, which explains why they always seem to find the backyard gathering. We've rounded up 7+ simple hacks to reclaim outdoor spaces and keep those persistent pests at bay.

FUN FACT

Memory Foam was Pricey!

When memory foam was first available outside NASA in the 1980s, it cost around $400/cubic foot. A single hospital mattress pad ran over $3,000. Hospitals used it for burn victims and patients at risk of pressure ulcers.

Manufacturing improvements in the 1990s dropped the price by 90% when Swedish mattress company Tempur-Pedic introduced the first consumer memory-foam bed in 1991.
