CLEANING

We once heard a plumber say that 80% of kitchen drain odors come from food particles stuck in the garbage disposal's rubber splash guard, not the pipes below . These seven smart tricks tackle smells at the source and keep drains fresh without harsh chemicals.

CLEANING

Water spots form when mineral deposits are left behind after droplets evaporate on your car's surface, and they can etch into the paint if ignored for too long. We found seven simple methods that work with household items you probably already have, so your car can look showroom-fresh again.

WILDLIFE CONTROL

We once watched a squirrel dangle upside down from a branch, performing acrobatics that would make a trapeze artist jealous, all to reach a supposedly squirrel-proof feeder. These clever critters can leap up to ten feet horizontally and remember the location of thousands of buried nuts, so outsmarting them takes more than wishful thinking and a basic baffle.

TIP OF THE WEEK

Why does cheese get hard at the edges?

Store cheese in the warmest part of the fridge, usually the vegetable drawer or a top shelf away from the back wall. Extreme cold dries out the surface and kills the beneficial bacteria that give aged cheeses their flavor.

If the edges do harden, trim them off with a clean knife before serving. Keeping cheese between 35 and 45 degrees preserves both texture and taste.
