CLEANING

We all remember those days when our grandmothers would hand wash clothes with such care, and believe it or not, there are some brilliant techniques we can still use today. Discover these 6+ ways to make hand washing not just a chore but an act of love for your favorite garments.

MABEL’S WISDOM

Freshen Up Your Drains the Easy Way

Back in my day, we didn't have fancy chemicals to keep our drains smelling fresh. Instead, we used a simple method that you can try at home.

First, gather these ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of baking soda

  • 1 cup of white vinegar

  • Boiling water

Pour the baking soda down the drain, followed by the vinegar. Let it fizz and bubble for about 15 minutes, then flush it all down with boiling water.

This old-time remedy works wonders and keeps your home smelling as fresh as it did in the good old days.

Trust Grandma, sometimes the simplest solutions are the best!

BUG CONTROL

Remember those summer nights when the mosquitoes seemed to have a personal vendetta? We've gathered some of the best homemade mosquito sprays so you can enjoy your yard without the bites!

TIP OF THE DAY

Lettuce in the Fridge: A Comedy of Errors?

Store your lettuce away from ethylene-producing fruits like apples and bananas to keep it crisp and fresh. Ethylene gas speeds up ripening and can cause your greens to become wilted and soggy.

Instead, place your lettuce in a separate drawer or container to maintain freshness. Adding a paper towel to the storage container can also help absorb excess moisture, ensuring your lettuce stays crisp longer.

PLANTS & GARDEN

We all know how pesky weeds can be, right? Almost everyone has had a battle with stubborn dandelions. It turns out there are some surprisingly simple solutions to keep your garden looking fabulous.

FUN FACT

Traffic Lights: The Original Multitaskers!

Before traffic signals, police officers had to direct traffic at busy intersections manually. Imagine standing in the middle of the road, waving your arms all day!

Thanks to William Potts' invention in 1920, officers could finally take a break and let the lights do the heavy lifting.

GARDENING

Gardening in the shade can be a delightful challenge. These 14 incredible perennials can transform a shady corner of your garden into a lush oasis.
