The Free Newsletter Fintech and Finance Execs Actually Read

If you work in fintech or finance, you already have too many tabs open and not enough time.

Fintech Takes is the free newsletter senior leaders actually read. Each week, I break down the trends, deals, and regulatory moves shaping the industry — and explain why they matter — in plain English.

No filler, no PR spin, and no “insights” you already saw on LinkedIn eight times this week. Just clear analysis and the occasional bad joke to make it go down easier.

CLEANING

We once spilled an entire glass of red wine on a cream carpet minutes before guests arrived and discovered that club soda and a clean towel saved the day without dragging out any heavy equipment. These four simple strategies prove that fresh, clean carpet is possible with nothing more than pantry staples and a bit of effort.

CLEANING

Gasoline spills happen to the best of us , whether from a tipped mower can in the trunk or an overfilled container on the way home from the station. That stubborn smell can linger for weeks if not treated properly. We've rounded up four proven ways to neutralize the odor at its source, so carpets can go from fume-filled to fresh without expensive professional cleaning.

MABEL’S WISDOM

Shine Like the Sun!

We didn't have fancy cleaners for stainless steel appliances when I was younger, but we still made them sparkle! All you need is a bit of elbow grease and a couple of simple ingredients from the pantry.

  • White vinegar

  • Olive oil

First, dampen a soft cloth with white vinegar and wipe down the appliance to remove any grime or fingerprints. Then, take another cloth, add a few drops of olive oil, and buff the surface until it shines like new.

Trust me, this old-fashioned trick will have your kitchen gleaming!

FOOD

Most home cooks toss shallots and onions into the same mental category, but these two alliums behave very differently in the kitchen, from their cell structure to how they caramelize. We discovered that French chefs have been guarding this secret for generations: shallots contain nearly twice the antioxidants of yellow onions and break down into a silkier, sweeter base that transforms sauces in ways regular onions simply can't match.

FUN FACT

Did an inventor dream up the CD while watching TV?

James T. Russell was a physicist in 1966 when he grew tired of his vinyl records wearing out quickly. He sketched the first digital-to-optical recording system, the ancestor of every CD, DVD, and Blu-ray, because he wanted music that wouldn't degrade.

Russell held the patent for years before Philips and Sony turned his concept into the shiny 4.7-inch discs that arrived in record stores in 1982.

THANK YOU!

Whether you're tackling carpet stains without hauling out heavy equipment, finally understanding why that shallot made you cry differently, or banishing stubborn gasoline odors , you now have the know-how to handle it all. Your home (and nose) will thank you.

May your carpets stay spotless,
